This scholarship is intended to support those Indigenous students who have at least 2 years remaining in their post-secondary studies. Scholarship recipients are selected primarily on the basis of personal and academic achievements, and individual financial need. Status Indians, Non-status Indians, Inuit and Métis are welcome to apply. Selected students will receive up to $4,000 per academic year for educational and living expenses for 2 to 4 years.
RBC awards ten scholarships in two categories for students:

JOURNEYWOMAN START GRANDE PRAIRIE

Free tuition for qualified applicants
If you’re interested in pursuing a career in construction but you’re not too sure which trade or where to start, this is the program for you. Journeywoman Start (JWS) Grande Prairie is a 12-week pre-apprenticeship program featuring classroom and hands-on skills development training that introduces learners to five skilled trades that are recognized as apprenticeships in Alberta.
The hands-on experience provides introductory skills training in drawing and blueprint reading, carpentry, welding, pipefitting, electrical, and plumbing.
You will receive industry exposure, job search support and earned employment referrals. Plus, essential safety awareness and certification. Academics, Best Practices for working in construction, exposure to technical skills and hands-on training. Students will write the AIT exam while in the program.

PROFESSIONAL CLASS 1 DRIVER

Program Starts: March 9, 2020
This program supports students through the Alberta mandatory entry-level training for class 1 drivers. Students also receive essential safety awareness and certification, Best Practices for Working in Transportation, ride-alongs with program partners, visit to a commercial vehicle scale, introduction to tools and engine, and written & road testing for the Professional Class 1 licence.
This is a competitive program with a maximum of 12 spaces available.
Application Requirements:

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence (no GDL) and a 5-year drivers abstract
  • Successful completion of drug & alcohol and fitness testing

Program Length: 8 weeks
Location: Edmonton, AB
