MFNERC is proud to present this year’s Circle of Knowledge & Practices Conference
October 5 & 6, 2023
Victoria Inn Hotel & Convention Centre, Winnipeg

In 2024, the Manitoba First Nations Resource Centre (the Resource Centre) is celebrating 25 years of supporting First Nations education and students. During this anniversary year’s Circle of Knowledge and Practices Conference (#CKP2024), the Resource Centre’s management and staff will look to the next quarter of a century. The theme for #CKP2024 is Strengthening Languages and Culture s for the Next 25 Years.

First Nations youth truly are the future of First Nations communities and cultures. Since its inception, the Resource Centre has dedicated itself to improving educational outcomes for First Nations we serve and students. Mandated to create a system for First Nations by First Nations, the Resource Centre has expanded from a handful of employees to being the largest First Nations organization offering educational services and supports within Canada. From administration and audiology to bus drivers and buses to infrastructure and technology supports, and more, the Resource Centre now includes a wide range of services that assist and support First Nations students and staff in the schools as well as local political and education leaders.

This year’s #CKP2024 is dedicated to the next 25 years of First Nations learning in Manitoba. In the years to come, the Resource Centre will continue to produce educational resource materials that help educators teach local First Nations cultures, languages, and traditions. Join us for #CKP2024 as we explore the First Nations teachings and traditions of yesterday, today, and the next 25 years to come.

This year’s Circle of Knowledge workshops and presentations are infused with teaching First Nations worldviews, along with skills and strategies that today’s teachers can use to enhance their classrooms. Teachers and school staff must be familiar with First Nations ways of knowing, being, and doing, so they can properly interact with students and infuse their modern teaching methods with the local people’s worldview.

Circle of Knowledge workshops will provide opportunities for teachers to learn more about First Nations knowledge, skills, and values, so they can teach their students to be proud of who they are and reach their goals for the future, all the while using the values and traditions that brought First Nations peoples to today’s world.
